Bug Out Bag

I brought my B.O.B. to an avid prepper friend to check it out for me, and to check it out for myself. Although I did review a list of contents before purchase, I had never opened it. I’ve had the bag for close to two years, and had SHTF, I would have relied on it, maybe my medical bag, and whatever stashes I had in my car at the time. (Currently, I would find roman candles, a winter coat, a few ponchos, and a small bit of food within.)

My first concern was the color of the bag, red, and the reflective strip. Mr. Experience was not in the least concerned with that. “It’ll be covered in mud by nightfall anyway.” Upon opening the bag, we found six little pouches. Two of these bags were filled with 12 pouches of water, each containing 4.225 ounces. The water bags have a stated five year shelf life.

Two more bags contained food bars, tissues, a space blanket, a poncho, a pack of water purification tablets, and a straw.  The food bars contain 400 calories each, full of fat, starch and all things bad for the body. But….calorie dense, lightweight and ready to eat. Perfect. 12 bars total.

The next bad contained alcohol wipes, water proof matches, playing cards, and a combo whistle-mirror-compass-container, with a wrist string. Finally, my long-time prepping friend found something to scoff at. “Playing cards?! Why do people want to bring playing cards, there’s wood to be gathered, shelters to be made. We don’t have time to play cards!” I responded with “For morale. What about the women and the children?!” To which he laughs, “They’re already gone.” Wow. Hardcore.

We get to the last bag. Save the best for last I guess. I am super impressed. It has a standard little first aid kit, not much to it, very basic. Also a great little lightweight radio, with batteries included but wrapped separately. Nice. And lastly, and probably my favorite, a led flashlight with a hand pump. Being a rather small woman I am pleased the bag only weighs about 20 pounds.

I am now adding just a few lightweight items, such as pain relievers, antibiotics, an antibiotic ointment, a pen and paper. Maybe a map, a LifeStraw and some hand written phone numbers. My friend added 36” by 36” all cotton fabric cover. Novice and expert alike are very pleased with my first bought, not gathered bugout bag, purchased from Christopher Greene, Bitcoin Rich. It would serve me well just as it is, and is probably worth more than what I paid for it.

MOG

MOG is here mostly because she has thumbs. Actually we're just teasing but thumbs are super helpful. She types everything for us, does most of the administrative work, and provides us with cash. We are aiming to be 100% self-sufficient but we aren't quite there yet. She also provides us with lots of love and affection.
