Marshall the Great Bush Crafter
AH! The great outdoors. Nothing refreshes the mind more than a great view, fresh air, relaxation, and freewill. Hence why most people love to go outside and stay there for a while. This includes Marshall. A lovable yet fierce German shepherd who knows he belongs to nature. He spent most of his time doing activities outdoors often alone, sometimes with others. Mountains, rivers, hills, forests, lakes, and many other places he has visited and conquered. He faced problems and did mistakes along his journey, but now he’s the perfect bush crafter.
He starts his journey prepared as all smart bush crafter do. The first thing he does before going out is planning ahead, and by planning ahead means doing the boring stuffs like researching the site and see the obstacles he will face there. What wildlife he’ll face and what to avoid there. Although this is boring and time consuming, Marshall knows that this is the smart thing to do as he is an experienced adventurer. Marshall gathers information on what stuffs and tools he needs to bring and prepare it beforehand.
Marshall heads out bravely into the wild, prepared and ready to face the obstacles and challenges provided by Mother Nature. He heads off early into the forest, ready to thrive and brings out the wildness in him. He walks deeper into the woods to find the best site to set up camp. Marshall does that by finding a place that have the essentials which is a good water source that provides clean water and possibly food source. Rivers are his preferred option. Setting up camp near a water source guarantees the availability of water, so Marshall does not need to worry about that.
After finding a water source, Marshall starts finding the best campsite near there. Although Marshall’s a tough cookie, he also needs to find a comfortable place to rest on. He starts by finding a flat surfaced land that is not scattered with pebbles and other debris that make him uncomfortable. Marshall then finds a good spot under a big tree for good shades. He finally sets up his tent quickly and perfectly under the shades. He did all that way before the sun is up at its highest point. After all the work is done, he rests for a while.
While resting, Marshall felt the wind flowing through his fluffy furs and it was getting chilly. Quickly, he goes deep into the forest finding one of his favourite things which are called sticks. All type of branches and logs, he gathered quickly and place it near his campsite. Time flew by and mountain of woods have been compiled and ready to be use for fire. Marshall starts by making a circle with rocks near his tent so fire won’t spread. Then he scatters dry crunchy leaves and add small branches along with it in the circle to make fire with. With a match on his paw and a strike of hand, fire was created. At first the wind is blowing, making the fire to not grow big but after a couple of while and a couple more woods later, Marshall have a campfire to accompany him along the night.
After all of those activities occurred, Marshall felt tired and mostly hungry. He is in need of fuel. However, in the wild, food won’t come wrapped in plastic ready to be used. So, before the sun went down, Marshall heads off to find fresh meat for dinner. He tried chasing rabbits but they’re too agile, tried catching fish but he gets all wet and fishes are too slippery. Tried catching bears but they out strong him. But Marshall’s a smart dog. He uses bait found in the woods and fishing rods to catch fish. He dug holes around the rabbit’s hideout and cover it with leaves whilst putting bait on top of it. He can’t out strong a bear so he is smart enough to not mess with one. While waiting, Marshall heads off to find wild berries, fruits, and vegetables that he recognizes from back home to eat. Moments fly by and Marshall’s belly is full.
Night time inevitably comes and it’s time for Marshall’s sleeping time. At this hour however, predators will often hunt and by sleeping, Marshall became vulnerable and may be in danger. Fortunately, He’s a smart boy and he sets up an alarm tool made out of wires with empty cans and other noise maker so he knows if danger’s going to come. Before sleeping, he made sure to cover his surrounding with the alarm to ensure the safety of his territory. Not only that, he made sure that his fire is low and does not attract the wildlife there. After all of this is done, he can finally rest easy.
Marshall is a talented bush crafter that you can guarantee. However, he’s not capable of doing everything with his own paw, he needs the help of modern technology and tools. As a skilled and experienced bush crafter, he packed knifes, ropes, tents, flashlights, bug repellent, matches, compass, and other essential thing. Not only tools, he brought canned foods that only needs to be reheated as an alternative in case he failed to catch a prey. He also carried water bottles, first aid kit and perhaps some dog treats just in case he knows that he’s a good boy. All of this is put into a survival bag made to be light to whomever is carrying it.
The sun comes up and morning comes. Marshall wakes up early to find woods, go fishing, and go sightseeing and many other activities. After a couple of days, it is time for Marshall to head home. He packs all of his belongings and put the trash away in a separate bag. He tidies up his surrounding and made sure none of his stuff is left behind that could endangered the wildlife there. Marshall puts out the fire and douse what’s rest of the fire so no forest fire occurs. Marshall is a responsible bush crafter and made sure that what he did isn’t affecting nature in a bad way. Eventually, journey must come to an end and Marshall is back home. Although he left the adventure behind, the spirit of adventure will always be within him.
